TouchScreen Communication Panel (TSCP)



InoTec GmbH is the first scanner manufacturer to incorporate TouchScreens into the scanners. This innovation makes the scanners very user friendly and allows it to 'speak' several languages. Freely configurable key assignment facilitates creation of individual user interfaces. Quick and uncomplicated operation is always assured.
Explicit pictograms guide the user through the various menu levels. Full text error messages negate the need to search through cryptic error codes. Graphics show scanner conditions and warn about potential incorrect operation.
The decisive advantages of the the TSCP solution are complete control of all scan processes and error correction can be performed at the scanner. Scanner operation is thus independent of the scan client being used. No more searching with the mouse inside several levels of the scan menu.
The TSCP can be used to create index and filing structures. Control of the Intelligent Endorser can also be accomplished via the TSCP.

Foot Switch
You only have two arms but want to accomplish several tasks at once?
No Problem - use a foot switch!
You can execute scanner commands via the foot switch to perform repetitive tasks.
For example paper separation can be switched on/off to deal with envelopes during the scanning of incoming mail. It makes most sense to use the foot switch for functions that do not occur according to pre-defined rules.
Any of the TSCP key functions can be assigned to the foot switch.
Up to two foot switches can be connected to the scanner. This, however, requires installation of the optional adapter.

 

Multi Dimensional Intelligent Thresholding (MDIT)
When does something become information? When does black become white or white becomes black?
These questions epitomise the inherent binarisation problem (the conversion of greyscale images to bitonal).
The binarisation employed by InoTec GmbH is called MDIT, which implies that several different algorithms are used.
One can, of course, use a fixed threshold during scanning (defines the value where black is turned into white and vice versa). But this is only appropriate when all documents to be scanned are identical or only specific information is to be recognised.
If the documents to be scanned are of varying density (readability) a dynamic threshold must be used. A dynamic threshold takes a greater area on the document into account when determining intensity differences. To further improve image quality 'dust specks' (despeckle) can be removed. The size of specks to be removed should be defined up front.
MDIT, configured properly, ensures that all information is captured during binarisation without the need to constantly adjust thresholds.

 

Image Processing Option
Standard options in the bitonal M03 series scanners are: MDIT, Deskew, Cropping, Despeck (from greyscale image but greyscale image is NOT available after scanning).
The image processing option for the bitonal M03 series scanners offers the following additional features:
Greyscale Image: Deskew, Cropping, Gamma Correction
Scaled Resolutions: 75, 100, 150, 240 dpi
The image processing options for the colour M03 series scanners offers the following additional features:

The scanner models 421BD, 421CS, 421CD as well as 510 and 515 have the image processing option built in as part of the standard specifications.

PaperFlowControl (PFC)
The scanner always knows where documents are located within the paper path due to the built-in PaperFlowControl. This feature monitors document flow from input to output hopper. In the unlikely event of a paper jam an explicit pictogram on the TSCP will show the location of the jam.

 

Double Feed Control
Several methodologies can be used to prevent double feeds. InoTec GmbH was one of the first scanner manufacturers to successfully incorporate ultrasonic double feed detectors into their scanners to prevent double feeds.
The process employed in our scanners, including the piezo-ceramic ultrasound sensor, is extremely reliable and virtually failsafe. It guarantees reliable scanning especially when processing mixed documents.

 

PaperSurfaceControl (PSC)
The document feeder used throughout the SCAMAX® family of scanners works reliably even when processing mixed documents. Paper separation, transport and paper ejection are especially gentle on the documents. The paper transport path is designed to be easily accessible at every point.
Automation in paper handling unfortunately has definite limits!
Different paper surfaces due to their production process, printers inks, aging process, humidity, dust, storage, glues used, and so on compelled InoTec's engineers to design a manual control to counteract varying friction coefficents. PSC allows varyation of feeder belts pressure to achieve optimum performance.

Acid Resistant Transport Rollers
Modern papers are often laced with chemicals, especially self-carbonisng paper, which greatly simply office work. Unfortunately, these chemicals often have adverse effects on other materials.
The transport rollers normally used in our scanners are equally affected by these chemicals. Slightly abrased parts of the rollers will absorb these chemicals and swell over time. The paper transport then becomes unreliable and 'unexplained' paper jams can occur.
Our engineers have devised rollers that are impervious to these chemicals, i.e. they don't swell. These can be fitted up front at the factory or in the field by a qualified service technician.
Since only a small number of documents contain these chemicals it is not economically justifiable to fit every scanner with acid resistant transport rollers.

  

Optical Filters H04
Many scan applications require colour drop-out. If you have a colour scanner this is not a problem. Using the colour filter generator you create an appropriate filter and drop-out the desired colour/s.
For bitonal scanners (H04) the methodology is different.
Due to our effecient illumination system we can use optical filters. Their employment is as easy as can be.
Using the list „Optical Filters for SCAMAX®xxx“ in the User Manual you determine which filter is needed. You then unscrew the standard filter (factory fitted to every lens) and replace it with the filter selected.
All that remains to be done is a white calibration. The colour selected will then be eliminated (dropped out) during the scan process.

 

RGB Colour Filters
With colour scanners the drop-out of RGB colours is achieved by utilising the colour channels. The RGB colour filter in InoTec scanners allows removal of one colour by switching off the respective colour channel. This is a methodology which is especially useful when the user has control over colour content during the forms design process. He can make sure that areas to be dropped out are in a colour that is compatible with this process.

 

Mixed Colour Filters
Colour scanners allow the drop-out of colours without resorting to optical filters or different coloured lamps. A RGB colour filter allows drop-out of one specific colour. In reality much more is required, most applications demand a mix of colours to be eliminated. This is where the use of mixed colour filters comes in.
These are colour filters generated using a 'colour filter generator'. The generator creates a small file containing the exact colour mix required. It is resident in the scanner for use during the scan process. It is possible to create a large variety of mixed colour filters and store them in scanner.

 

Colour Filter Generator
This generator allows you to construct filters that exactly meet your requirements for mixed colour drop-out. For example if certain colours or hues impede the performance of an ICR or OCR this software enables you to remove these 'irritants' during scanning to greatly improve performance. Another example of where this technique is often used is the 'removal' of coloured mail room date stamps.

 

White Scan Background
Some documents have a texture or colouration that requires a different scan background. A most common example are transparencies (technical drawings) which need a white scan background for successful digitisation. Another example is black documents where edges would be invisible unless a white scan background is used.

 

Endorser 5xx
An endorser is in imprinter that traditonally was used to cancel various documents like promisory notes, cheques, monetary notes, and so on. In some applications endorser were used to mark certain documents. Sometimes a counter was used as well.
InoTec GmbH decided to combine the basic idea of the endorser with the function of a printer and the intelligence of a PC.
The endorser for the 5xx series prints fixed and variable character strings on the back of selected documents. The user can select a variety of fonts, font sizes and widths and print intensity. The print position is also user selectable.
The 5xx endorser works in realtime without any loss of scan speed. This printer is a high resolution unit that is also capable of printing barcodes.

The InkJet cartridge is needed for the Intelligent Endorser M03 Barcode.
Fitting of a cartridge is required to enable the endorser to print characters.
The three tanks-one printhead set ensures adequate supply of consumables.
The cartridges offered make it easy to re-activate a dried-up ink cartridge via the inbuilt pump mechanism to reactivate ink flow.
Should this procedure fail repeatedly it is advisable to contemplate use of the Ink Cartridge Cleaning Device (ICC) - (rarely required with Pelikan InkJet Cartridges).

Fitting of a cartridge is required to enable the endorser to print characters.
If repeated attempts to make the ink cartridge perform fail it is advisable to employ the Ink Cartridge Cleaning Device (ICC).

The ICC makes dried-up ink cartridges useable again. It can be used with both CANON and PELIKAN InkJet Cartridges.

These ink cartridges are needed for the Intelligent Endorser M03.
The pack contains three ink cartridges with integrated printhead.
These cartridges are available in different colours, allowing printing in black, blue, red or green. Each cartridge contains one colour only.

Consumables Kit for M03
The inherent abrasiveness of paper causes a few parts to wear with time. Feeder belts and push-back roller linings have to be cleaned, depending on use of scanner, and ultimately replaced.
To avoid frequent replacement and minimise „Cost Of Ownership“ InoTec's engineers devised an adjustment that compensates for the progressive wear of these parts in the feeder. This extends the 'mileage' of belts and linings considerably. The consumabels kit contains various feeder belts and push-back roller linings. In case of very difficult paper/documents belts and/or linings of different composition can be fitted.

Cleaning Kit H04 (standard with every SCAMAX H04)

White Calibration Paper
On rare occassions, for example after changing lamps, it will be necessary to perform a white calibration. This adjusts the scanner's cameras to their current environment. To ensure the calibration (rarely necessary) is performed according to specs we recommend use of our white calibration paper. This is the same paper used by our final quality check team prior to delivery of every scanner.

 

Paper Guides without Glass Flats
Images often display longitudinal stripes. They always occur in exactly the same location on every document, as if applied by some magical force. Sometimes original information is obliterated by them.
How can such errors occur?
Most often such an error is due to damage to the glass or plastic paper guides. The damage is usually caused by staples or paper clips inadvertendly left in some documents.
To avoid such damage in the first place InoTec uses a paper guide without glass or plastic flats. The reasoning is simple: no glass = no scratching or breakage!
InoTec scanners have no problem scanning documents containing staples or paper clips or any other 'attachments'.
Paper guides without glass considerably reduce the cost of ownership. The user does not have to buy expensive paper guides and fit them (sometimes they need to be fitted by a qualified technician) to ensure optimum image quality.

 

Back Cover with Dust Filter H04
To reduce build-up of dust within the scanner a back cover with integrated dust filter can be fitted to the high speed scanner SCAMAX®510xx.
The filter extracts dust generated during scanning into a woven filter pad. This action considerably reduces the cleaning effort normally required.

  

Professional Vacuum Cleaner
The vacuum cleaner is purpose designed to clean the scanner effciently. Paper dust and bits of paper accumulate within the scanner and will eventually cause deterioration of image quality. Lamps, mirrors and the interior cavity of the scanner should be subject to regular cleaning. To be able to reach all areas of the scanner's interior a vacuum cleaner with various suction nozzle attachments is the best device to ensure a proper job.

Integrated height adjustable Workstation Table H04
The H04 type scanners have an integrated height adjustable workstation table. Every operator can set his/her own preferred height.
The table height selected can be saved and each time the operator logs on the scanner adjusts to the preselected height (memory function). This is a great advantage designed to increase operator productivity.

Keyboard Holder and PC Housing H04
To fully utilise the H04 scanner as a 'ScanWorkStation' a PC housing can be integrated into the scanner along with a keyboard holder at the front.
InoTec offers a PC housing that is fitted into the right hand side of the scanner cabinet. Any systems integrator or customer can then fit their individual PC components into this housing.
Having the PC integrated into the scanner makes it a lot easier to move the scanner around. It makes it unnecessary to disconnect and reconnect the PC every time the scanner is moved.
Making use of the keyboard holder ensures correct ergonomic positioning of this frequently used item.
